About
Us
Fraem is a third-generation family owned company from Slovenia. Grown from a small woodworking shop into a timber-glazing specialist, still building everything by hand, with the same care that shaped its beginnings.
Fraem’s production is rooted in craftsmanship, where the knowledge of the material and the precision of the maker shape every detail. Each timber component is individually chosen and worked by hand, ensuring that the final window reflects both the architectural vision and the nuance of skilled workmanship.
When working with Fraem, clients work directly with the designers and craftsmen who build their windows. There are no intermediaries. This direct relationship enables clear communication, fast and informed decision-making, and full accountability from initial concept through final execution.
Fraem Family
Fraem is a family company not only in ownership, but in culture: many craftsmen start as apprentices and stay for life, carrying skill, responsibility, and pride from one generation to the next. This continuity is reflected in every frame we make.
This hands-on approach ensures exceptional quality and gives us the flexibility to shape each window to architectural intent — adapting dimensions, details, and finishes to suit design vision.
Through collaboration with architects, we refine form together with function, pairing FSC-certified timber with modern engineering to deliver glazing solutions that are warm, authentic, and high-performing.
Design Principles
Fraem approaches timber windows as architectural elements that shape space, light, and perception. Each frame is precisely composed to define the view without distraction, using refined proportions and contemporary profiles that quietly support the architecture rather than compete with it.
Flush detailing dissolves the boundary between inside and out, creating a continuous, calm surface language where transitions feel intentional and effortless. Expansive glass surfaces invite daylight deep into the interior, amplifying openness and strengthening the dialogue between building and landscape.
In moments where architecture calls for absolute clarity, frameless glazing allows transparency to take precedence—uninterrupted, understated, and pure. Across every system, Fraem speaks a single, coherent design language, ensuring visual continuity, restraint, and enduring architectural integrity.
Technical Highlights
Fraem performance is shaped by engineering that remains discreet yet uncompromising. Each system is developed to achieve Passive House–level efficiency, delivering exceptional thermal performance while preserving clarity of form and architectural intent.
Acoustic comfort is carefully calibrated, with sound insulation typically ranging between Rw 34–37 dB, depending on glazing composition—creating interiors that feel calm, protected, and composed. Glazing is sourced exclusively from leading German manufacturers, featuring triple-pane units that are fully tempered and heat-soak tested, with laminated options available where additional performance or safety is required.
Precision German hardware underpins the experience of use—quiet, smooth, and reliable over time. Structurally robust timber profiles enable large spans and expansive openings, maintaining stability without visual heaviness. Continuous gasket sealing ensures airtightness and resistance to the elements, while flush threshold detailing completes the system, allowing barrier-free transitions that align technical performance with architectural continuity.
Materials & Craftmanship
Fraem’s work begins with a deep respect for material and time. Durability, refinement, and sustainability are treated not as separate ambitions, but as a single, inseparable principle. Every window is hand-assembled and hand-finished, allowing the knowledge of the craftsman and the character of the material to guide each decision.
Frames are crafted from FSC-certified oak or larch, responsibly sourced for long-term performance and environmental responsibility. Carefully layered water-based coatings protect the timber while revealing its natural depth and texture, balancing resilience with visual clarity.
Longevity is designed into the system. In buildings with protective roof overhangs, maintenance is typically required every 7 to 15 years; in more exposed conditions, intervals range from 5 to 10 years. Darker exterior finishes further extend these cycles by offering increased UV protection—ensuring the material ages with intention rather than deterioration.
Customization & Flexibility
Fraem systems are conceived as adaptable frameworks rather than fixed products, responding to architecture with openness and precision. A broad palette of customisable finishes—from natural timber and nuanced stains to fully bespoke colours—allows each project to express its own material identity.
A wide range of opening types and configurations supports both spatial and functional freedom, including tilt-turn, casement, fixed elements, and multi-panel compositions that extend from simple arrangements to wide-span, project-specific solutions. Custom dimensions and geometries ensure that each window is shaped by architectural intent rather than standard limitation.
Designed for large glazed surfaces and daylight-driven spaces, Fraem systems balance structural performance with visual lightness. Handcrafted production enables non-standard details and finely tuned adaptations, ensuring even the most precise design ambitions can be fully realised—quietly, accurately, and without compromise.
